What we built with no time to build it.
The call came at 8pm on a Saturday in May 2020, as the pandemic gripped the UK and the Government stood up what would become the Joint Biosecurity Centre. We were handed a blank sheet of paper, some very broad requirements and a deadline of “yesterday”. By midday on Monday our directors had rallied a team. Six working days later a demonstration platform with real analytics stood where that blank sheet had been, and within two weeks analysts from departments across the UK were working on it, more than 450 of them at the peak. That fortnight shaped how we have built every platform since: DASA-funded defence R&D, climate dashboards for the UK's UNESCO sites, and AI role-players that answer a soldier in around two seconds.
